Khaberni - The police authorities in Kerala, India detected a large network for forging university degrees across the country, involving certificates from Indian and foreign universities, amounting to about one million forged certificates.
The authorities in India arrested 11 people connected to this network, including individuals responsible for printing, forgery, and transport. The forged certificates contained names of real universities, and fake seals and signatures.
According to local media, the police have confiscated hundreds of printers and computers, forged seals, and recovered about 100,000 fake certificates, attributed to 22 universities outside of Kerala.
The price of the forged certificates ranged from $3,000 to $6,000, and they were distributed by agents of the gang in various states of India.
The authorities are investigating to uncover any involvement of university officials in the operation, and are tracking the individuals who obtained them to determine whether they were used to secure jobs or other benefits.
Danish Darman, known as "Danny", is considered the mastermind behind the network. Previously investigated in 2013 for similar offenses, he reestablished the operation from a rented home in Pollachi, Tamil Nadu after his release from prison, employing experienced printing workers, including individuals from Sivakasi, for the production of the fake certificates.
The network leader invested the proceeds from the operation in real estate and businesses inside and outside of India and was arrested while attempting to flee abroad with his family.
