Food and Drug Authority clarifies on products containing NAD

Khaberni - The Food and Drug Authority confirmed on Thursday that it has received numerous inquiries about products containing Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD+) and clarified whether they are licensed or authorized in the kingdom.

The Authority stated that NAD+ is a substance that naturally occurs in the human body and is the active form of Vitamin B3, adding that it functions as a crucial coenzyme in all living cells, essential for converting food into energy, DNA repair, and supporting metabolism and immune health.

Regarding manufactured products containing NAD+, the Authority confirmed that there are two main types of these products:

Intravenous injections (NAD+ Injection):

The Authority noted that these injections are neither licensed nor authorized by it, and there is no accredited agent for them in the kingdom. The Authority clarified that these injections are misleadingly promoted on social media, where they are claimed to combat aging, rejuvenate cells, improve brain functions, and increase fat burning. However, the Authority confirmed that there are no scientific studies to support these claims.

Oral capsules (NAD+ Capsule):

The Authority said that the capsules containing NAD+ registered as a vitamin preparation in Jordan contain 250 mg of NAD+ per capsule. According to the Authority, two capsules are taken daily, which equals 500 mg of the substance. It clarified that these capsules are approved as dietary supplements and not for therapeutic purposes like treating aging or senescence. The Authority also confirmed that the NAD+ level in these capsules is low to ensure the safety of the dosage and should be used under medical supervision, especially for patients with kidney and liver diseases, hypertension, pregnant and breastfeeding women, and individuals under 18 years of age.

The Authority urged citizens to read the product's label carefully before use and to adhere to its warnings.

At the end of its statement, the Food and Drug Authority emphasized the importance of communicating with it in case of any observations, inquiries, or complaints about these products. Citizens can contact through the toll-free complaint line 117114, via email at [email protected], or through WhatsApp on the number 0795632000.
