Warning Tattoos May Increase the Risk of Skin Cancer

Khaberni - The European Journal of Epidemiology warned that tattoos might increase the risk of developing skin cancer (melanoma).

The journal explained that the reason behind this is that tattoo ink may contain carcinogenic chemicals such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and aromatic amines and heavy metals.

When tattoo ink is injected into the skin, the body perceives it as a foreign substance, which means activating the immune system. Additionally, some colors can degrade into harmful chemicals that may cause cancer, especially when exposed to sunlight after getting a tattoo.
