New Bolivian Government Restores Diplomatic Relations with Israel

Khaberni - Israel and Bolivia have restored their diplomatic relations after a new right-wing government came to power in Bolivia, replacing the government that was one of the most prominent critics of Israeli policies towards Palestinians.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar met with his Bolivian counterpart Fernando Aramayo in Washington to sign a declaration reviving bilateral relations, which had been severed by the previous leftist government in Bolivia two years ago due to the war between Israel and "Hamas" in Gaza.

The signing ceremony took place at the residence of the Israeli Ambassador to the United States, Yehiel Leiter.

Saar said in his speech during the ceremony, "Today we turn a long and unnecessary chapter of separation between our two countries", adding that relations between the countries had been warm for decades, and renewing them is an important and welcome step, reaffirming Israel's commitment to working closely with the Bolivian government in a way that serves the interests of both parties.

The Bolivian Foreign Ministry published a statement saying: "Bolivia and Israel fully restore their diplomatic relations and open a new phase of strategic cooperation", indicating that the two countries will soon exchange ambassadors and send mutual official delegations.

It also clarified that the rapprochement with Israel is part of a new foreign policy adopted by the Paz government, considering that "this rapprochement represents a return to trust and smart cooperation and the revival of historical links with a modern vision."
