Revolution The First Arab AI Model Developed by Syrian Refugees

Khaberni - In a world dominated by major Western companies, the Arab AI model artificial intelligence "Revolution" comes as an answer to a question long posed by users: Where are the Arabs in artificial intelligence?

The uniqueness of "Revolution" is not limited only to it being an Arab AI model primarily but also in the model's operational mechanics which rely on techniques different from the usual AI models, according to a report by "Tech for Palestine".

"Revolution" was created by Syrian siblings Hani and Saeed Al-Shahabi, who left Syria before 2011, and upon their arrival in Germany, they decided to delve into the computer and technology world.

After years of working at major German tech companies, the siblings decided to follow a different approach and introduce an Arab AI model that focuses on user privacy, provides accurate information, and is environmentally friendly.

Fundamentally Different Technology

At first glance, the "Revolution" model might seem like an attempt to Arabize AI technology and add an Arabic flair to the widely used Western technologies globally.

But in reality, it's different; the "Revolution" model is based on a different concept in the AI world created by giant tech companies that are behind "Chat GPT" and others.

This difference starts with how the model operates, where "Revolution" relies on the GLM-4.5 Air model, a type of "mixture of experts" open-source AI, which has over 100 billion different standards. Instead of activating all these standards at once for every query, "Revolution" activates just 12 billion standards for each question.

This point alone makes the "Revolution" model different from other AI models that consume all their power for each question posed to them, using a huge amount of energy and computing power.

"Revolution", on its official website, boasts about being 93% more effective than "Chat GPT" due to its unique standard usage mechanism, in addition to being more energy-efficient.

The official site further adds that using standards differently provides the model with greater speed and accuracy in daily operations which don't require much computing power, besides being less costly to run.

The model also fully aligns with various programming interfaces thanks to its reliance on the "OpenAI" developer kit, making it suitable to work with all "Vibe Coding" applications.

Privacy Before Features

The Arab AI model "Revolution" relies on "Digital Ocean backend" and "TogetherAI inference" servers, both of which are fully secured and out of the influence of major tech corporations or even governments, according to a report by "Tech for Palestine".

Therefore, all conversations with "Revolution" remain fully protected and cannot be analyzed or sold by any external party, although "Revolution" retains some conversations for purely technical purposes.

Fully Arab Identity

Hani Al-Shahabi states during his discussion with "Inside Barakah" that entering the tech sector for him and his brother was to leave a lasting impact in their lives and the lives of everyone around them, which prompted them to leave their jobs and focus on developing "Revolution", especially with the Western blackout on Arab events in Palestine and elsewhere.

Al-Shahabi emphasizes in his talk that "Revolution" came directly in response to the privacy question in the world of artificial intelligence. There are search engines like "Duck Duck Go", messaging applications like "Signal", and browsers like "Brave", and he adds, saying: "My aunt speaks with AI more than anyone I know. I find it terrible because Chat GPT lacks an ethical framework. It's scary."

The siblings confirm during their talk with "Inside Barakah" that the model is designed for users looking for AI that has a living conscience, respects privacy, stands up for marginalized communities, and fully supports the Palestinian cause.
