Khaberni - Minister of Culture Mustafa Al-Rawashdeh, on Wednesday, announced a national accomplishment that consists of inscribing the Al-Mahras olive tree on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity at UNESCO.
The tree was nominated for its historical, economic, social, and cultural value, as it is considered the origin of other varieties and reflects with its deep roots the history of the region. It is used in traditional and medicinal industries and is surrounded by rituals and popular practices during the harvest season, according to the minister.
Al-Rawashdeh confirmed that the "Al-Mahras tree" represents an integral part of Jordan's intangible heritage, due to its association with festivals and folk songs and the daily life of the Jordanian people, thanking the institutions and experts who contributed to the success of the nomination.
