Official Jordanian Sources Israels Annual Water Allocation Not Formally Announced to Jordan

Official Jordanian sources confirmed in an exclusive statement to "Khaberni" today, Wednesday, responding to what is being circulated about what some Israeli newspapers published concerning the annual Jordanian water allocation stipulated in the peace agreement, that Jordan has not been formally notified of anything regarding this matter.

Maariv newspaper reported that the Israeli occupation state has informed Jordan of its intention not to deliver the agreed annual water allocation to the Kingdom.

It was mentioned that Tel Aviv will not provide Jordan with about 50 million cubic meters of water, stipulated in the 1994 "peace" agreement.

According to the newspaper, Israelis claim the issue is technical relating to water and pricing, whereas the Jordanian Water Ministry says the reason is not engineering-related.

The newspaper alleged that Jordan had previously shown a willingness to negotiate the pricing, with no response from "Israel" so far.

Under the "Wadi Araba" peace agreement signed between the sides in 1994, Israel supplies Jordan with 50 million cubic meters annually from Lake Tiberias, which is transported via the King Abdullah canal to the kingdom, in exchange for one cent (dollar = 100 cents) per cubic meter.

In 2021, Jordan and Israel reached an agreement under which the latter would supply the kingdom with an additional 50 million cubic meters of water, purchased under an agreement signed between them in 2010, which stemmed from the 1994 agreement.
