Egyptian Rejection of Deviancy Support Activities at Irans World Cup Match

Khaberni - The Egyptian Football Association sent an official letter to FIFA, in which it categorically rejects the holding of any activities related to the support of (homosexuality) during the Egypt vs Iran match, scheduled to be held in Seattle, USA on June 26, 2026, in the third round of the group stage of the 2026 World Cup.

In the letter sent to Matias Grafström, the Secretary-General of FIFA, the Egyptian Association confirmed that there have been discussions indicating that the local organizing committee had planned to hold some activities associated with supporting (homosexuality) during that match, and that it completely rejects such activities, which directly contradict the cultural, religious, and social values of the region, especially in Arab and Islamic societies.

The Egyptian Football Association clarified in a statement through its official website on Tuesday, that while FIFA commits to ensuring a respectful environment that welcomes all fans, it is crucial to avoid incorporating activities that could cause cultural and religious sensitivities among the fans from both countries, Egypt, and Iran, especially since such activities culturally and religiously conflict with both countries.

The Egyptian Football Association in their letter referenced FIFA's established principles in the governing statutes, specifically Article 4, which highlights neutrality in political and social issues and ensuring that football competitions remain neutral in political and social issues and that it does not become a platform to promote issues that are sensitive or contentious in nature.

The Egyptian Association also referred to FIFA's disciplinary law and event regulations, which explicitly state that FIFA competitions must be free from any manifestations that may cause tension, misunderstanding, or conflict among fans from different backgrounds.

The association also referenced FIFA's firm principle about respecting cultures and encouraging all parties to organize events in a manner that respects the beliefs and identities of the participating communities, and therefore, to ensure the match is held in an atmosphere dominated by respect and focus solely on the sport.

The Egyptian Association concluded its letter by firmly rejecting those calls and demands from FIFA to not hold any activities or performances related to (homosexuality) support events inside the stadium on match day.
