Khaberni - Google has acknowledged the presence of technical defects in the screens of some of its latest phones, prompting it to launch a free repair program for the Pixel 9 Pro series, following increasing complaints from users. The program specifically targets visual issues that directly affect daily usage, reflecting a direct acknowledgment of a manufacturing flaw.
This move coincides with the expansion of the warranty for one of the company's foldable phones, as part of efforts to contain potential repercussions and enhance customer confidence in its products.
In this context, the company announced a dedicated repair program for the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL, which were released in 2024. The program primarily focuses on screen issues that some users may encounter, including the appearance of a vertical line extending from the top to the bottom of the device, or screen flickering.
The company also announced the provision of a three-year extended warranty for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, noting that it has published full details of both programs on its official support pages.
Free repair for Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL
Google acknowledged the presence of a flaw in the screens of some Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL phones, noting that a limited number of devices might display a vertical line extending from the bottom to the top of the screen, or flickering on the Pixel 9 Pro screen, which are defects requiring an extended repair program.
The company added that the program covers the affected devices for three years from the original date of purchase, although devices that have cracked screens, damaged glass covers, or exposure to liquids might be excluded.
If the phone does not pass the eligibility tests, or there is damage outside the warranty, charges may be applied to the repair process.
It is noted that repairs under the extended program have begun and will be available through Google's direct maintenance centers, certified partners, and online repair services.
The company confirmed that the eligible devices would receive a free screen replacement, with a 90-day warranty on the repaired devices.
Extended warranty for Pixel 9 Pro Fold
In a parallel move, Google also announced an extended warranty program for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, providing coverage for three years from the original purchase date. Unlike the repair program for the Pixel 9 Pro series, Google has not specified the defects covered by this program, only indicating that some devices may experience functional problems.
Under the same conditions, but devices with cracked screens, damaged glass covers, or signs of liquid leakage may be excluded. If the device does not meet the program requirements, or there is damage outside the warranty, standard repair or replacement fees may apply, and other failures may fall under Google's limited warranty.
It is noted that eligible owners of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will receive a free replacement of the device, and this service will be available online, at Google stores, or through certified service centers, depending on the region.
