The Ayan Legal Committee Approves Amendments to the Sharia Enforcement Law and the Official Gazette

Khaberni - The legal committee in the House of Ayan, chaired by Ayan Ahmed Tabishat, on Tuesday approved the draft law amending the Sharia Execution Law for the year 2025 as received from the House of Representatives, and the draft law amending the Official Gazette Law, with an amendment.

This was attended by the Minister of Justice Bassam Talhouni, the Chief Islamic Judge Abdul Hafez Rabtah, the member of the Supreme Sharia Court and the director of the technical office Dr. Mansour Talbuba.

The amendment to the Sharia Execution law aims to simplify the procedures of executing Sharia judgments, expedite the delivery of rights to their rightful claimants, give the convicted a chance to work and earn to satisfy their debts, reduce imprisonment wherever possible, and develop methods of executing judicial orders with respect to the defendants.

Regarding the draft law amending the Official Gazette law received from the House of Representatives, the committee unanimously agreed to approve Article 4, which involves issuing the Official Gazette in print or electronically, while it disagreed with the decision of the House of Representatives to delete Article 8, which included the appointment of the director of the Official Gazette, and decided to retain the article as it appeared in the original law.

Article 8 of the draft law stipulates that the Prime Minister appoints the director of the Official Gazette, with the possibility of delegating one of the staff to perform the duties of the director, who is responsible for preparing it for printing.

The amendment to the Official Gazette, according to its justifying reasons, aims to keep up with legislative and technological updates, in addition to the need to establish a mechanism for regulating the publication process of the Official Gazette, in a manner that keeps up with digital developments, as it is currently issued both in print and electronically.
