An Israeli security official, according to Khaberni monitoring, stated on Tuesday that it has been decided to allow the passage of goods and humanitarian aid coming from Jordan to the West Bank and Gaza Strip, via the Allenby Bridge, starting from tomorrow Wednesday.
The Allenby Bridge is one of the most prominent border crossings between Jordan and the Palestinian territories and is located near the city of Jericho, over a bridge that spans across the Jordan River, built in the late nineteenth century. The occupying forces refer to it as "Allenby Bridge" named after the British General Edmund Allenby who led his forces to occupy Jerusalem in 1917.
In Jordan, it is known as "King Hussein Bridge," while the Palestinians call it "Allenby Bridge" in honor of the Battle of Karameh in 1968, which has become a symbol of Palestinian and Jordanian resilience against the occupation.
Today, the crossing is used to transport individuals between Jordan and the West Bank, and it serves as one of the few passages open to Palestinians moving to and from the kingdom, as well as being a major conduit for trucks carrying aid heading to the Gaza Strip.
