Why "Voice of Hind Rajab"? ... Cinema as a Humanitarian Message
The film, directed by Tunisian Kaouther Ben Hania, blends precise documentary recording with narrative art, based on real audio recordings of a distress call made by a five-year-old Palestinian girl named Hind Rajab with the Palestinian Red Crescent team, before she was killed with her family in a bombing by occupying forces in southwest Gaza in 2024.
In her speech after receiving the award in Venice, Ben Hania said, "The voice of Hind is the voice of Gaza crying out for help," emphasizing that the film not only retrieves a person we have lost but also restores her humanity and gives a voice to the victims of war to be heard.
From Venice to San Sebastián.. Awards Confirm Strength
At the conclusion of the 82nd Venice International Film Festival, the jury awarded it the "Silver Lion," the second-highest award of the festival, after the film caused an emotional shock during its premiere amidst warm applause that lasted about 24 minutes from the audience.
On September 29, 2025, the film also won the "Audience Award" at the conclusion of the 73rd San Sebastián Film Festival in Spain, reflecting a wide resonance with viewers for its impactful humanitarian content.
Besides its nomination for the 2026 Golden Globe list, it was officially chosen to represent Tunisia in the Oscars race for the year 2026 in the category of Best International Film.
"Voice of Hind Rajab" has become a highlight in Arab world productions this year, highlighting the ability of Tunisian cinema to compete globally through works with strong humanitarian content and a modern artistic language.
