Media reports confirmed that tickets for the 2026 World Cup experienced a historic rise in the resale market just hours after the tournament draw and schedule were announced, especially those involving the Portuguese and Argentine teams.
The British newspaper The Athletic indicated that with the matchups determined, the market shifted quickly, with prices soaring to unprecedented levels compared to just one day before the 2026 World Cup draw.
It stated: "Before the draw was released on Friday, the minimum ticket price for the match on June 27 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami was under 400 dollars, due to the unknown identity of the teams. However, once "FIFA" announced on Saturday that the match would involve Portugal and Colombia, the price rose to over 2000 dollars within less than an hour".
It added: "Over time, the prices continued to rise, nearing the three thousand dollar mark, before later stabilizing around an average of 2200 dollars."
It emphasized that this leap positioned the match among the most expensive of the tournament's matches ever in the secondary market, ranked only behind the final and semifinal.
The newspaper pointed out that the sharp increase reflects the huge demand expected for matches featuring prominent names like Cristiano Ronaldo, alongside the large fan bases for South American teams. It also confirms the increasing trend towards speculation in the ticket market as soon as major matchups are revealed in global tournaments.
The newspaper noted that this dynamic is likely to continue as the event approaches, particularly for matches involving major national teams or taking place in American cities with high tourist demand, making the upcoming edition one of the most costly for fans seeking to experience the event from the stands.
