Khaberni - Israeli media outlets re-broadcast old footage showing the withdrawal of the Israeli officer Roman Goffman - who was recently appointed as the head of Mossad - from fighting with Palestinian resistance elements during the battle of Al-Aqsa Flood on October 7, 2023.

Goffman is seen in those scenes firing during a clash at Sha'ar Hanegev junction near the Sderot settlement located within what is called the Gaza Envelope, and then he flees the scene while under fire.

According to Israeli reports, Goffman was injured in this clash and was transported to Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon for treatment. At the time, he was the commander of the Tzehelim base with the rank of Brigadier General. Later, Goffman became the military secretary to the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Goffman - now a Lieutenant General - has become a focal point in the Israeli media after Netanyahu, last Thursday, announced his appointment as the head of the foreign intelligence agency (Mossad) to replace David Barnea, whose term ends in June 2026.

Netanyahu's office - in Goffman's appointment statement - stated that he was "severely injured" during his engagement with fighters from the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) around the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023.

His appointment - which requires approval from the senior positions advisory appointment committee - has sparked protests within the security establishment.

Security officials stated that Goffman lacks experience in the intelligence field, while Channel 13 in Israel suggested that his appointment might trigger a wave of resignations within the security establishment.
