Khaberni - UNRWA Commissioner-General, Philippe Lazarini condemned the occupation's raid on the UNRWA buildings in East Occupied Jerusalem.
Lazarini stated in a release today, Monday, that this action represents a blatant violation of Israel's obligations, as a member state of the United Nations, towards the protection and respect of the sanctity of the United Nations' premises, noting that Israel confiscated some furniture and information technology equipment, among other properties, and lowered the United Nations flag, raising the Israeli flag in its place.
Early today, the Israeli police stormed the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) compound in East Jerusalem. Motorbikes belonging to the police, trucks and forklifts were brought in, and all communications were cut off.
Lazarini added, "Following months of harassment which included deliberate arson attacks in 2024, hate demonstrations and intimidation supported by a widespread media misinformation campaign, as well as anti-UNRWA legislations passed by the Israeli parliament, in violation of international commitments, UNRWA staff were forced to evacuate the compound at the beginning of this year."
