Khaberni - The Algerian security services managed to detain a suspect in a case related to criminal activity in the field of cybercrimes, in the context of ongoing efforts to combat cybercrime and enhance digital space security.
According to a statement issued by the same services, on Monday, the facts of the case date back to the monitoring of a suspicious electronic platform that was providing services to create phishing sites used in hacking accounts through fraudulent links, in addition to discovering several electronic accounts that were publishing malicious links by impersonating well-known personalities, exploiting their images in deceptive operations to lure victims.
The statement added: "The investigations carried out by the specialized services, through technical research and electronic inspection procedures, led to the precise identification of the suspect. A number of electronic articles issued by global media sites specialized in cybersecurity, which discussed the extensive criminal activity of the manager of this platform since 2020, were also inspected, where the number of cyberattacks attributed to him reached 140,000."
Based on this data, permission was obtained to extend jurisdiction to an inner state, where the suspect was apprehended and a group of digital equipment was seized, consisting of a laptop, a central unit, four external hard drives, and two mobile phones. The suspect was then presented before the jurisdictionally competent prosecution to complete the legal proceedings in the framework of a comprehensive criminal file.
