Khaberni - Israeli data revealed an unprecedented increase in the deaths of Palestinian prisoners inside Israeli prisons since Itamar Ben-Gvir took over the Ministry of National Security.

The Israeli website "Walla" reported that between January 23 and June 25, 110 security prisoners died, most of them in hospitals after being transferred from detention centers.

According to the site, this number is the highest compared to data known from previous decades.

Last week, the Israeli Public Defense Office disclosed in a report a sharp deterioration in the conditions of Palestinian prisoners classified as "security" prisoners since October 7, 2023, confirming radical changes in detention conditions.

The report, issued by the office under the Ministry of Justice and published by the "Wall Street Journal", pointed to dangerous levels of overcrowding, hunger, and near-daily beatings, in a rare official acknowledgment of conditions that had long been confirmed by former prisoners and human rights organizations.

On the other hand, Ben-Gvir continues to push for the capital punishment bill for attackers, which the National Security Committee will discuss today on Monday in the second and third readings.

In statements to his associates, Minister Ben-Gvir said that he "is proud to have stopped the summer camps in the prisons," adding that "the prisons have returned to being prisons after having been luxury hotels for saboteurs for years."

High Mortality Rates

According to data obtained by the Israeli website "Walla", the number of deaths recorded in recent months far exceeds the estimates of human rights organizations, which had pointed to the deaths of only dozens of prisoners over long periods in previous years.

The current number of security prisoners and detainees in Israeli prisons is estimated at no less than 10,000, following a series of arrests since the outbreak of the war, and the release of 1700 detainees from Gaza and 250 prisoners classified as "dangerous" as part of the Israeli hostages release deal.

The organization "Physicians for Human Rights" documented the deaths of 46 Palestinian prisoners in prisons from the beginning of the war until August, but the new data reveals much larger numbers, according to the Israeli website.

In 2023, 32 prisoners died, including 14 who passed away inside hospitals; in 2024, 47 prisoners died, 31 of them in hospitals; and so far this year 2025, 31 Palestinian prisoners have died.

Since October 7, the Prison Service has prevented Palestinian prisoners from receiving visits from the Red Cross, violating international law and justifying this by stating that Israelis held by Hamas were also not allowed visits.
