Khaberni - The Gulf Cooperation Council countries condemned and denounced the media statements made by Iranian officials which affect the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Bahrain, and the rights of the UAE in its three islands (Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa occupied by Iran), and the sovereignty over the Durra oil field which is owned jointly by Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jasim Al-Badiwi, stated that the remarks included distortions, baseless claims, and unacceptable allegations. He clarified that these statements are contrary to the principles of non-interference in internal affairs and good neighborliness, which Iran violated by its aggression towards the sovereignty and independence of the State of Qatar. He added that the Iranian statements conflict with the ongoing efforts of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries to enhance and develop relations with Iran at all levels.
In the same context, the Gulf Cooperation Council countries emphasized the importance of adhering to the foundations and principles stipulated in the United Nations Charter and international law. These principles include good neighborliness, respect for the sovereignty of states, non-interference in internal affairs, resolution of disputes by peaceful means, and avoiding the use of force or the threat thereof.
Al-Badiwi pointed out that the Gulf states have always shown good intentions towards Iran, keen on Tehran's security and stability which preserves the interests of the Iranian people and avoids the regional implications of tension and escalation. He cited the meetings between the foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and the Iranian Foreign Minister Dr. Abbas Araghchi as an example. He also emphasized the importance of continuing bilateral communication between the Council states and the Islamic Republic of Iran to enhance mutual interests and preserve regional security and stability.
The Gulf Cooperation Council countries affirmed their commitment to peace and coexistence, pursuing dialogue and diplomatic solutions in international relations. They called on Iran to refrain from spreading false claims that could undermine trust and obstruct communication and understanding. This comes at a time when the countries of the region need rapprochement and cooperation to preserve their interests and achieve the aspirations of their peoples for security, stability, and prosperity.
Yesterday, Al-Badiwi mentioned that the Gulf Cooperation Council countries desire the stability and prosperity of Tehran, noting that the Council states "do not want the collapse of Tehran." At the same time, he presented Gulf demands towards Iran, describing them as "simple and basic demands."
He explained that Iran represents a rich cultural, artistic, and historical heritage, asserting that "the Gulf states have a lot to offer to Iran," and stressed the importance of focusing on a shared future.
