Khaberni - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates congratulated Syria on the first anniversary of Liberation Day, at the time when Syrians, today, commemorate the first annual anniversary of the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime.

It is scheduled that Al-Umawiyyin Square in the capital, Damascus, will witness official celebrations, and has indeed been filled with jubilant crowds in preparation for the eighth of December. Celebrations will also be held in other places across the country.

Assad fled from Syria to Russia a year ago when the opposition led by current President Ahmed Al-Shara took control of Damascus, ousting him after a war that lasted more than 13 years, which broke out following an uprising against his rule.

Several areas in Syria have been celebrating for several days, and the streets of Hama were filled with thousands on Friday, waving the new Syrian flag to commemorate the day when Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham took control of the city during its rapid advance towards Damascus.
