Khaberni - Screenshots have spread on social media of the "Chat GPT" chatbot interface displaying what looks like an advertisement for Target.
This comes at a time when news of OpenAI's -the developer of Chat GPT- plans to introduce ads in the chatbot app has upset users.
Following the appearance of those screenshots containing the "Target" ad, Nick Turley, head of "Chat GPT" at "OpenAI", quickly denied this in a post on the X platform on Saturday, according to a report by Business Insider, which "Alarabiya Business" reviewed.
Turley said: "I see a lot of confusion about the rumors of ads in Chat GPT. There are no existing tests for ads - any screenshots you saw are either not real or not ads."
He added: "If we proceed with ads, we will take a thoughtful approach," and said: "People trust Chat GPT, and anything we do will be designed to respect that."
An X platform user posted a screenshot describing it as "shopping ads from Target," expressing his displeasure with the matter.
The shopping link for "Target" in the screenshot is likely linked to a new shopping feature, and not any move by "OpenAI" to display direct ads in "Chat GPT."
In late September, "OpenAI" announced that it had begun taking "the first steps towards agent-based commerce in Chat GPT through new methods that allow people, artificial intelligence agents, and companies to shop together."
When a shopping question is posed to the chatbot, "Chat GPT" displays the most relevant products from across the web, and if these products are supported by the instant payment feature, users can click on a "buy" tab, according to what "OpenAI" mentioned on its website.
However, this does not mean that ads will not come to "Chat GPT" at some point; as "OpenAI" had previously said that it was considering introducing ads in the chatbot, which is not surprising considering its massive base of 800 million active weekly users.
But it now seems that any plan by "OpenAI" to display ads in "Chat GPT" is frozen after the unexpectedly competitive launch last month of the "Gemini 3" artificial intelligence model by Google, said to have forced "OpenAI" to change some of its plans due to its highly advanced level.
