The World Cup draw placed "Leo" and his national team Argentina in Group Ten alongside the teams of Algeria, Jordan, and Austria, without it yet being clear whether the star from Inter Miami will participate in the tournament or not, although he revealed in previous statements that he wishes to compete in the World Cup once more.
Messi provided a statement to the journalist Marcelo Benedetto, who works at "Dsports" channel, on the sidelines of his celebration of the MLS American League title, which he won with his club Inter Miami. He commented on the group of his national team in the 2026 World Cup, emphasizing the need to focus on the group stage matches.
"Leo" stated in this regard: "We must only think about the group stage, and about Argentina's competitors in this round. We must also think that the Argentine team will not face a problem in surpassing this stage, then we will see what happens after that."
"El Pulga" also revealed how he followed the World Cup draw, saying: "In truth, I followed the draw like all Argentinians, with some tension and nervousness when the balls appear, wondering who will be your opponent in the group stage."
He continued: "In those moments, as you know, one begins to form an idea about certain things, then in the World Cup, things can happen very differently, sometimes results happen that no one expects, as surprises always occur."
In case he officially participates in the World Cup, "La Pulga" will be scheduled to face the Algeria national team in the first matches of the Argentine team in the group stage, on June 16, at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.
