Khaberni - Former world champion Spaniard Sergio Ramos confirmed on Saturday that he will not renew his contract with Mexican Monterrey in 2026, after joining the team in February last year.
Ramos (39 years old), the 2010 World Cup holder and four-time Champions League winner with Real Madrid, leaves after his team was eliminated from the semi-finals of the winter tournament in the Mexican league.
The Mexican league, like many Latin American countries, holds two tournaments each year: an opening championship and a closing one.
The Spanish defender signed for Monterrey in February last year, and played 27 matches with them, scoring 6 goals, including four matches in the Club World Cup in July last year, where the team was eliminated in the round of 16 against Borussia Dortmund of Germany.
Ramos said in comments to the Mexican TV after the loss against Toluca, "Yes, this is my last game."
Last week, the press reported that Ramos decided not to extend his contract with "Rayados," which ends at the end of this month.
Ramos did not reveal his next step, but media reports suggested that he hopes to return to a European club, aiming to compete in the 2026 World Cup with the Spanish national team.
