Khaberni - The Egyptian Ministry of Interior clarified the circumstances of the detention of a media figure's brother and a news site editor-in-chief, confirming that their detention was in execution of a prosecutorial decision.
The Ministry of Interior announced details of an incident that sparked controversy on social media, following a post by media figure Qaswa Al-Khllali in which she claimed her brother was arrested, who is the chairman of a news website, along with the site's editor-in-chief, without revealing their place of detention.
The ministry stated in its statement issued today, Sunday, that the examination showed that the origin of the incident dates back to a formal complaint filed on the second of this month by the head of the poultry division at the commercial chambers against the mentioned site. The complaint was based on statements attributed to him regarding the spread of "rotten and colored poultry" in the market, which he denied ever issuing, confirming that he did not speak to the site.
The interior ministry mentioned that the public prosecution started the investigation immediately upon receiving the complaint, and issued a decision to arrest and bring in the chairman of the website and its editor. The order was carried out and the accused were presented to the prosecution to take the necessary legal actions.
The statement confirmed that the Journalists' Syndicate was notified, as one of them is a member, and that all procedures were carried out according to the law without any excess, in a framework respecting judicial and legal constraints.
