Khaberni - In a step described as a victory for workers and a stand against what some have called a “loophole for corporate evasion of people’s rights”, Deputy Captain Zuhair Al-Khashman, head of the Union of Centrist and National Islamic Parties parliamentary bloc, put forward a proposal to amend article (53) of the Company Law—a provision long complained about by employees and workers who lost their rights after their companies closed or their owners fled.

The document that reached the head of the House of Representatives reveals a major problem that has been recurring for years: companies suddenly closing their doors, workers without salaries, bonuses, or compensations, and partners declaring “limited responsibility”... then disappear.

The new proposal puts the dots on the i's, and demands the addition of a clear text that forces partners and owners to pay full worker rights if the company’s assets are insufficient—meaning the end of times for evading workers’ obligations.

Here comes the question awaited by both the public and employees:

What will be the next step? And will the government move to close this loophole?

The proposal is now in the hands of the presidency of the House of Representatives, and it is up to the government to present its opinion and study before making a decision. If approved, it will be one of the most important amendments to restore the rights of workers and protect thousands of families from repeating the tragedy.

At the same time, passing such an amendment would enhance confidence in the labor market and limit the smuggling of funds before liquidation or closure, especially in small and medium-sized companies that form the heart of the national economy.

And the pressing question remains today among the people:

Will this step succeed in turning “limited responsibility” into fair responsibility… or will the law remain as it is and workers' rights remain pending?

The coming days will carry the answer.
