Safadi JordanianEuropean summit in Amman next month

Khaberni - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi received on Sunday the Vice-President of the European Commission and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas.

Safadi and Kallas discussed, in their meeting where they followed up on their talks held in Barcelona last month during the Union for the Mediterranean Forum, ways to enhance and develop the established strategic Jordanian-European partnership in various fields.

They also discussed preparations for the Jordanian-European Summit to be held in Amman on the eighth of next month, with the participation of His Majesty King Abdullah II, the President of the European Council Antonio Costa, and the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

Safadi appreciated the European Union's supportive positions towards Jordan and the ongoing support provided by the Union to the Kingdom in various developmental and economic sectors.

The two sides discussed developments in the region, and Safadi emphasized the need to unify efforts to adhere to the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and implement its terms fully and ensure sufficient, sustainable, and immediate delivery of aid to the sector and move towards the second phase of the agreement linking stability to a clear political horizon that embodies an independent and sovereign Palestinian state on the lines of June 4th, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on a two-state solution.

Safadi stressed the necessity of stopping the serious escalation and illegitimate Israeli actions in the occupied West Bank, and the violations of the historic and legal status of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

Safadi and Kallas also discussed the latest developments in Syria, and Safadi reiterated Jordan's support for brotherly Syria in rebuilding on foundations that ensure Syria's unity, security, sovereignty, stability, territorial integrity, and the safety of its citizens, condemning the ongoing Israeli assaults and occupation of parts of its territory in a clear violation of the sovereignty of an Arab state and the UN Charter.

Safadi and Kallas affirmed the solidity of the strategic partnership between Jordan and the European Union, and continued work to enhance it through broader cooperation in all fields, serving the interests of both sides and enhancing efforts to achieve security and stability.
