Khaberni - The Public Security Directorate launched today an awareness campaign titled "Traffic Safety… Partnership and Responsibility", in the context of its ongoing efforts to eliminate the phenomena of exhibitionist and reckless driving, which is considered one of the most dangerous behaviors causing traffic accidents and poses a direct threat to the lives of drivers and citizens.
This campaign comes as part of the Directorate’s approach to enhancing effective partnership with the citizens, and raising the level of community awareness about the importance of adhering to traffic rules, emphasizing that the cooperation of citizens in reporting dangerous behaviors is a key element in confronting this phenomenon and limiting its spread.
The Directorate indicated that intensive security campaigns are continuously implemented through various patrols to control reckless driving, in addition to monitoring complaints and observations received from citizens about any dangerous behavior on the roads, via the number 0770999030 or through the 911 application that allows the sending of photos and videos of any behaviors posing a danger to public safety, ensuring the confidentiality of reports around the clock.
During his talk on the "Security FM" program, the Traffic Management Director, Brigadier Raed Al-Assaf, confirmed that exhibitionist and reckless driving are among the prominent causes of accidents, noting that global studies show that 32% of accidents result from high speeds and show-off behaviors. He added that the new traffic law has stiffened penalties for these behaviors in a step aimed at deterring their perpetrators, explaining that showing off is not limited to speed or "drifting", but also includes dangerous behaviors inside the vehicle, such as passengers sitting at the front of the car or on the roof while driving.
The Traffic Management Director revealed a noticeable decrease in exhibitionist driving violations during the current year, with 2916 violations recorded since the start of 2025 until November 30, compared to 3787 violations in the same period of 2024. He considered this decrease reflects an increase in the level of awareness among citizens alongside the effect of tightening penalties, which contributes to reducing risks on the roads.
Al-Assaf pointed out that the youth category is the most likely to commit these behaviors, calling for increased awareness of their risks, and appealing to parents to monitor their children's behavior and guide them to protect them from the consequences of these dangerous actions.
In conclusion, Brigadier Al-Assaf confirmed that exhibitionist driving violations entail strict administrative procedures including the impoundment of the vehicle for a period of 30 days inside the Traffic Management premises, in addition to legal penalties that stipulate imprisonment from one month to two months or a fine from 200 to 300 dinars or both, with an increased penalty in case of recurrence within the same year.
