Khaberni - Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jasim Al-Badiwi, stated that the Gulf states are seeking stability and prosperity for Tehran, pointing out that the council states "do not want Iran to collapse."
This was during a discussion session at the Doha Forum 2025, titled "Defense Policy, Security, Mediation in Conflicts, and Peacebuilding" under the theme: "Iran and the Changing Regional Security Environment."
In the session, Al-Badiwi presented Gulf demands towards Iran, describing them as "simple and fundamental". He clarified that Iran represents a rich cultural, civilizational, and artistic heritage, pointing out that "the Gulf states have a lot to offer Iran" and emphasizing the importance of focusing on a shared future.
In the same context, Al-Badiwi noted that over eight decades, the Gulf states have turned into the world's ninth-largest economy, with a GDP last year of about 2.4 trillion dollars. He confirmed the council's desire to share these experiences with Iran.
The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council stressed the necessity of respecting the principles of good neighborliness, adhering to the United Nations Charter, dialogue, and non-interference in other countries' affairs.
Former Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, confirmed that Iran is capable of overcoming crises despite the challenges it has faced throughout history, according to him. He pointed out that "Iran has always been ready for dialogue," emphasizing the need to institutionalize the ongoing discussions between Iran and the Gulf Cooperation Council states and to build a shared vision for the future.
The session was attended by former Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, and the Director of the Italian Institute for International Affairs, Natalie Tocci.
