Khaberni - Producer Ahmed El Sobky announced the release of "The Atheist" in Egyptian cinemas on December 31, ending more than a year of debate about its ban and announcing its official return to the cinematic competition.

El Sobky announced the screening date through the publication of the official promotional announcement of the film on his official Instagram page, stating that the film will be shown on New Year's Eve after obtaining all necessary approvals, giving the audience a chance to watch it for the first time after a long period of legal and media controversy.

The permission for the film's screening followed a final judicial ruling issued by the Administrative Judiciary Court of the State Council in November, which rejected the lawsuits filed by attorney Mortada Mansour that demanded the film be banned from cinemas.

The court confirmed in its reasons that the work has an official license issued by the Supervision of Audio and Visual Media with number 121 for the year 2023, which it considered an "administrative positive decision" that permits its screening and does not allow for any legal basis to hinder it.

The court also ruled to reject one of the lawsuits due to the absence of an administrative decision, after the Ministry of Culture and the Supreme Council of Culture submitted official documents proving the validity of the license, which effectively ends all legal paths that had hindered the release of the film to the public.

It should be noted that the film "The Atheist" is written by writer Ibrahim Issa and directed by Mohamed Jamal Al-Adl, and stars a selection of stars including Ahmed Hatem, Mahmoud Hemida, Sherine Reda, Tara Emad, and Naglaa Badr.
