Khaberni - The official newspaper in Kuwait “Kuwait Today” issued a decree to withdraw nationality from Preacher Tareq Al-Suwaidan.
The decree, issued by “Seif Palace” and signed by the country’s Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, stated that upon the presentation by the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and after the approval of the Cabinet, it has been decided to withdraw the Kuwaiti nationality from Tareq Mohammed Saleh Al-Suwaidan, and those who acquired it with him by dependency.
The decree also pointed out that the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior is to implement this decision, which shall be effective from the date of issuance and published in the official newspaper.
While the decree did not specify the legal basis it relied on to withdraw Al-Suwaidan’s nationality, Kuwait had previously announced that nationality could be withdrawn in cases where it was acquired through fraud, a crime that necessitates withdrawal, or evidence of endeavors to undermine the system.
Kuwait has also withdrawn nationality from other individuals for holding additional international nationalities.
About two years ago, Kuwaiti authorities withdrew nationality from tens of thousands of citizens, including clerics, leaders in security agencies, academics, and public figures.
