The player Mohamed Salah made controversial statements following the Liverpool vs Leeds match in the English Premier League.
The Egyptian star appeared firm and straightforward after the match, expressing the level of frustration he is experiencing inside Liverpool lately. He confirmed that the result was extremely disappointing to the team, especially since it started ideally with two goals before the team conceded goals which he described as «trivial», noting that these defensive errors had been recurring even when he was on the field, and therefore they cannot be used to justify his current situation or to lay responsibility on him.
In contrast, Mohamed Salah spoke with a clear tone of anger describing his benching for three consecutive matches as a first in his career, asserting that he is deeply shocked because what he has offered to the club over the years, including his high level last season, should afford him a different standing in the team.
He added that his current feeling is that the club "is throwing him under the bus", in his own words, pointing out that there are attempts to blame him indirectly.
He discussed the promises he received from the club during the summer, confirming that none have been fulfilled yet, and that the relationship that was strong between him and the coach no longer exists, without him knowing the reason, adding that there are those who do not want him in the club apparently.
Salah clarified that despite everything happening, he will forever be linked to Liverpool, as will his family members. He recalled a situation with his mother who was not aware that he would not start the last match, and that he invited her to come anyway to enjoy the match at Anfield, which for him might be "farewell" before participating in the Africa Cup of Nations.
Liverpool's star concluded his talk by affirming that he does not understand the reason for his current situation, and that he sees that any other club would have protected its player rather than pushing him to appear as the problem, emphasizing that he has given much to the club and deserves more respect, and that his position in the team is not something he needs to fight for daily since he has earned it through his work and efforts over the years, and not because he considers himself bigger than the club or anyone else.
