Khaberni - Khalil Al-Hayya, head of the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas, announced on Saturday that the movement is ready to hand over its weapons to the "state" that will manage the sector in the future, but this is contingent upon the end of the Israeli occupation.
Al-Hayya said in a statement to the media: "Our weapons are tied to the presence of the occupation and aggression, and if the occupation ends, these weapons will be turned over to the state."
Al-Hayya's office clarified to Agence France-Presse that by "state," he meant "a future sovereign Palestinian state."
He added: "The weapons are still a subject of discussion among the factions and mediators, and the agreement is still in its early stages. We accept the UN forces as forces for separation and monitoring of the borders, and for overseeing the ceasefire in Gaza."
The Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, on Saturday, considered that the disarmament of the Hamas movement cannot be the main priority in Gaza, while mediators are seeking to implement the second phase of the peace agreement in the Palestinian sector.
When asked about disarming Hamas, which the movement considers a red line, Fidan said: "Disarmament cannot be the first step in this process. We need to put things in their proper context, we need to be realistic."
Qatar and Egypt, which along with the United States mediated the ceasefire in Gaza, called on Saturday for the withdrawal of Israeli forces and the deployment of an international stabilization force in the sector, as necessary steps for the full implementation of the agreement.
