Khaberni - Kaja Calas, the EU's foreign policy chief, observed on Saturday that the United States remains Europe's biggest ally, following the publication of Washington's new American national security strategy, which criticized European institutions.
In response to a question about the new American security strategy at the Doha Forum, Calas said, "Of course there are many criticisms, but I believe some of them are valid," adding, "The United States remains our biggest ally... We do not always agree on various issues, but the rationale is the same. We are the biggest allies and need to stay united."
This comes after the Trump administration published a new national security strategy on Friday, based on the motto "America First."
The strategy harshly criticized European allies, stating that the United States will support opponents of the values led by the European Union, including those related to immigration.
The strategy notes a decline in Europe's share of the global economy, largely due to the rise of China and other powers, and states, "The economic decline is overshadowed by a real and clearer possibility of cultural erasure.. If current trends continue, the continent may become unrecognizable within twenty years or less."
While Trump is trying to put an end to the war in Ukraine under a plan that grants Russia more territory, the strategy accuses Europeans of weakness and asserts that the United States needs to focus on "erasing the impression that NATO is an endlessly expanding alliance, and preventing that from becoming a reality."
