Unionist Khaled Al-Ziyoud, head of the General Union of Petroleum and Chemical Workers, and head of the Regional Cooperative Union for Zarqa Governorate, stated that International Volunteer Day is an important milestone for renewing faith in the value of community giving, and recognizing the efforts of volunteers in serving the vulnerable sectors of society.

Al-Ziyoud said on this occasion that community service has a certain sanctity, "because it springs from soul, heart, and mind alike," adding that volunteers are "spirits enlisted and gifts from the Creator, used to sow mercy among the people," and citing his belief: "People are there for each other and everything is with God”.

Al-Ziyoud, who has worked for many years in charity work and currently heads the Hashemite District Cooperative Society, added that integrating cooperative and charity work has become necessary to enhance community security, emphasizing that labor unions are not just institutions defending the rights of workers, but are also fundamental partners in social solidarity initiatives. He noted that the union works alongside cooperative societies in Zarqa and the Hashemite District to instill a culture of volunteering among the workers, support needy families, and provide programs that serve the local community, indicating that these efforts "embody the true image of Jordan... a country of endless giving, and its people who do not hesitate to stand with each other when needed”.

He indicated that only a small percentage of society members ranging from 2 to 3 percent according to global studies have a natural inclination towards volunteer work, "but the impact of this group is comparable to that of armies in their fields; they fight to create smiles on the faces of the weak, and create something out of nothing”.

Al-Ziyoud questioned the many opportunities that pass by individuals daily wherein they are capable of offering a simple act of kindness that leaves a significant impact, saying:

Sometimes those around us need a nurturing hand, a smile or a kind word... These are the keys to hearts before being physical acts”.

He pointed out that cooperatives and associations, with a social dimension, represent open platforms for good, and do not need additional licenses "because their license is from God's mercy instilled in hearts," emphasizing that the workers and volunteers associated with them deserve all appreciation.

Al-Ziyoud concluded his message by saying:

I bow in respect to everyone who has extended a helping hand and helped the desperate... for God does not forget the favor of those who do favors, and a morsel in the belly of the hungry is better than building a thousand mosques”.
