The draw for the 2026 World Cup, which was held on Friday, resulted in placing the Jordanian national team and the Algerian national team in Group Ten.

The eyes of Jordanians in particular, and Arabs in general, will be directed toward the match-up between the two Arab teams, in a purely Arab summit.

The match between Jordan and Algeria will be held on June 22, 2026, within the second round of the group matches.

Fourth Pure Arab Match-up in the History of the World Cup

The World Cup draw system prevents two teams from the same continent from playing in one group (with the exception of European teams), hence the Arab-Arab match-ups were limited to 3 previous matches between an Asian representative and an African representative, with the Saudi team being the Asian representative in all three match-ups.

In the first match-up, the Saudi team managed to defeat its Moroccan counterpart with a score of 2-1 in the 1994 World Cup.

The Saudi team shone in the tournament held in the United States, managing to advance to the second round with 6 points, winning also against the Belgian team, and losing its first match against the Dutch team, while the Moroccan team was eliminated from the tournament with no points.

In the second round, the Saudi team lost to the Swedish team with a score of 3-1.

The second encounter brought together Saudi Arabia and Tunisia in the 2006 World Cup, ending in a 2-2 draw.

The third match-up took place in the Russia 2018 World Cup, between Saudi Arabia and Egypt, ending with a 2-1 victory for the Saudi team.
