Khaberni - Lebanese President Joseph Aoun considered today, Thursday, that the first session of talks led by civilians between Israel and Lebanon was "positive", and should be built upon "to ward off the specter of a second war," noting that the next session will be held on December 19.
At the conclusion of a session for the Council of Ministers at the Presidential Palace, Information Minister Paul Marqous relayed Aoun's words during the session, saying, "It is only natural that the first session wasn't very productive, but it paved the way for future sessions starting on the 19th of this month," adding: "So far, the reactions to the first meeting have been positive and this is what we should capitalize on to achieve our goal of staving off the specter of the second war from Lebanon."
Amid fears in Lebanon of a major Israeli escalation, a Lebanese and an Israeli civilian representative participated on Wednesday in the meeting of the committee tasked with monitoring the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, at the headquarters of the United Nations Interim Force in South Lebanon, in the first direct talks between the two countries in decades.
