Khaberni - The leader of the Druze community in Israel, Mowafaq Tarif, expressed his concern about the protection granted by US President Donald Trump to Syrian President Ahmad al-Shar', and his messages to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Tarif's statements come in response to what the newspaper "Maariv" described as "messages" sent by President Donald Trump to Netanyahu regarding the Syrian front, saying: "We are very pleased with the results achieved in Syria, and we are doing our utmost to ensure that the government will continue to do what is necessary to build a real and prosperous state - it is important for Israel to maintain dialogue and not hinder its development."
In his interview with the program "Voice of the Druze" on "North FM104 Radio," Tarif commented on these statements by saying: "If Trump restrains Netanyahu's hands, we will be in serious trouble, and therefore we are making visits to Geneva and the international community in order to exert pressure on Trump, not just for the Druze, but for all minorities in Syria, the Yazidis, Alawites, Kurds, and Christians. The government cannot continue slaughtering minorities while the world watches from the sidelines and does nothing," he expressed.
Tarif added: "We are trying through international bodies to provide significant assistance to the Druze in Sweida, and the unacceptable answer we get from them is that the place must be declared a 'disaster area,' then they tell us that it must be declared by the ruling regime, and I say, oh my God, what hypocrisy! How can the regime announce that when it is the one slaughtering and causing all this chaos?" he expressed.
It is worth mentioning that the National Committee for Investigating the Sweida Events in Syria announced last week the detention of several elements from the ministries of defense and interior and referred them to the judiciary after proving their involvement in the events that the province witnessed.
The head of the committee, Judge Hatem al-Na'san, confirmed during a press conference that "everyone who committed a violation will be held accountable."
The Syrian presidency had condemned, through a statement on July 16, the violations that occurred in the Sweida province following armed clashes between gunmen and Bedouin tribes, after which government forces entered the province and then withdrew from several areas, vowing to hold accountable everyone proven to be involved.
On July 22, the Minister of Defense stated that he was aware of "shocking and serious violations committed by an unknown group wearing military uniform in the city of Sweida."
The Syrian Ministry of Interior also condemned circulated videos showing field executions by unidentified individuals in the city of Sweida, asserting that these acts represent serious crimes.
On July 31, the Ministry of Justice formed a committee to investigate the violations that occurred in Sweida and to hold those responsible accountable.
In August, the Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani, emphasized Damascus's commitment to hold accountable anyone who committed the violations in Sweida, from any party, and highlighted the need to firmly address any sectarian or inciteful rhetoric.
Meanwhile, Israel launched air strikes targeting Syrian security vehicles and other objectives during these events, in addition to attacking the headquarters of the General Staff in the Syrian capital Damascus, under the pretext of defending the Druze community.
