Khaberni - On Wednesday, the doctor who fueled the addiction of "Friends" TV star Matthew Perry, who died from an overdose of ketamine in October 2023, was sentenced to 30 months in prison.

The doctor, Salvador Plasencia, is one of the main individuals responsible for Perry's death, against whom five people are being prosecuted. Plasencia did not supply Perry with ketamine, but he admitted to selling him about twenty packages of this tightly controlled drug in the weeks leading to his death.

He faced a sentence of up to 40 years in prison and has voluntarily pledged to cease practicing medicine. In a written statement to the court, the actor's mother Susan Perry and her husband Keith Morrison said that the doctor failed to perform his duty.

The statement added that "Matthew's (Perry) recovery depended on your saying no."

On their part, the doctor’s lawyers stated: "He is not a bad person; he is someone who made grave mistakes in his medical decisions involving the unauthorized use of ketamine."

The death of Matthew Perry, who was found unconscious in a jacuzzi tub in his apartment in October 2023, shocked the "Friends" audience, followed by a wave of tributes to the late actor in Hollywood.

The actor who played Chandler Bing in the famous series had openly spoken about his struggles with addiction and was using ketamine under medical supervision as part of treatment sessions for depression. However, this legal drug is sometimes misused for stimulant or recreational purposes, and Perry relapsed into addiction in the fall of 2023, according to the investigation.
