Khaberni - The specialized judicial authority in corruption cases sentenced an employee at the Ministry of Education to five years imprisonment with temporary hard labor, fining him and charging him 270,000 dinars, on charges of embezzlement.

In detail, the accused worked as a disbursement officer in one of the education directorates, where he was responsible for receiving the cheques from donating entities designated for high school students in Syrian camps, cashing them from the bank, and then depositing them into the account of the Ministry of Education to allocate and spend for the students and staff in those schools.

Syrian students and staff in their schools complained about not receiving the amounts designated for them, so they contacted the Education Directorate, which in turn formed an investigation committee. It was found that the accused was cashing these cheques without depositing them into the account of the Ministry of Education and Education.

The investigation revealed a significant discrepancy between the deposited and spent funds, and after auditing the amounts, it was found that there was a difference of approximately 135,000 Jordanian dinars.

As a result, the employee was referred to the Public Prosecutor of the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission, who charged him with embezzlement.

After hearing the witnesses of the public prosecution and defense witnesses, the charges of embezzlement and abuse of office were confirmed against the employee, and he was sentenced to five years in prison, and fined double the embezzled amount to become 270,000 dinars.

It should be noted that the decision is subject to appeal.
