Khaberni - The official newspaper in Iraq reported that it has been decided to freeze the assets of those described as "terrorists", including the Lebanese Hezbollah group and the Houthis in Yemen.
This step is likely to be welcomed by Washington, which is seeking to reduce Iran's influence in Iraq and other Middle Eastern countries.
Iran considers Iraq a vital element for the continuation of its economy's resilience under sanctions, but Baghdad, a partner to both the United States and Iran, fears pressure from US President Donald Trump regarding Tehran.
US President Donald Trump signed an executive order a week ago to initiate procedures to classify some of the Muslim Brotherhood's branches as "foreign terrorist organizations".
The executive order states "This order initiates a process whereby certain branches of the Muslim Brotherhood or its sub-divisions are considered foreign terrorist organizations", specifically referring to the Muslim Brotherhood branches in Arab countries.
The executive order indicates that these branches "commit, facilitate, or support violence and destabilization campaigns that harm their regions, citizens of the United States, and the interests of the United States".
