The Israeli newspaper "Maariv" revealed that the Israeli military is enhancing its readiness on the borders with Egypt and Jordan in anticipation of any security developments.
The Hebrew newspaper pointed out that the army is dealing with scenarios where tactical threats might evolve into strategic challenges.
The Israeli newspaper added that the Israeli Chief of Staff, Rav Aluf Eyal Zamir, made a field visit on Wednesday evening to Brigade 80 on the Israeli-Egyptian border, where he inspected efforts to counter the threat of drones that might be used as a channel for smuggling light and medium weapons like machine guns and anti-tank shells into Arab towns inside Israel, as well as in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
"Maariv" noted that Zamir emphasized during his visit that the Israeli military faces challenges on seven high-intensity combat fronts, in addition to other fronts with explosive potential, such as the borders with Egypt and Jordan.
The Chief of Staff said: "We operate in all arenas, near and far, to confront complex threats that are evolving before us. We are reshaping the western border, building strong defensive capabilities – and we will not allow the escalation of threats on our borders. We must be prepared on every border and every front for any sudden terrorist attack that might confront us, while simultaneously continuing to develop defenses on the front, enhancing them as necessary, and ensuring the readiness of the forces at all times. Our methodology is clear and applied here in Brigade 80: thwart every threat from its inception. There is no retreat – but initiative."
The newspaper confirmed that Zamir conducted a field assessment with the leaders during the visit, discussing the challenges of the front, including dealing with the threat of drones and enhancing the defense concept of the Nitzana settlements.
Zamir also met with soldiers from the tank units operating in the area, and expressed appreciation for their efforts and their contribution to the security of the settlements, emphasizing that the readiness of the forces is a crucial element in the army's ability to thwart threats and maintain regional stability.
