Khaberni - Representatives of the 15 member countries of the UN Security Council arrived in Syria, on Thursday, on a visit considered the first of its kind, where the delegation, upon their arrival in the capital Damascus, observed the extent of the destruction and vandalism that affected the Jobar neighborhood.

UN Security Council members are scheduled to meet with a number of Syrian officials, members of the Syrian civil society, and committees responsible for investigating the facts on the incidents in the coast areas and Sweida, in addition to meeting with Najat Rochdi, the Deputy Special Envoy of the United Nations to Syria.

An official source informed "SANA" that this visit comes amidst increasing international recognition of the sovereignty and unity of Syria and its ability to lead its own national recovery process, and it contributes to rebuilding the Syrian people's confidence in the Security Council after years of suffering from the "crimes of the Assad regime".

The permanent representative of Slovenia to the United Nations, Samuel Žbogar, whose country holds the presidency of the Security Council this month, explained in a previous press statement that the scheduled visit to Syria aims to send a message of support to the country, expressing his hope that this visit will enhance the Syrians' trust in the United Nations.

The UN Security Council consists of 15 countries, including five permanent members: "the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, France, and China", and 10 non-permanent members which are Sierra Leone, South Korea, Panama, Pakistan, Guyana, Greece, Algeria, Slovenia, Denmark, and Somalia.
