Khaberni - The activist group "Irish Council for Civil Liberties" has filed a complaint accusing Microsoft of violating the European Union's data protection law.

Bloomberg news agency reported that the group based its complaint on allegations from company employees that Microsoft helped in removing evidence of the extensive surveillance Israel conducts against Palestinians from data centers located within the continent.

The complaint, filed by the group on Wednesday, calls for the Irish Data Protection Commission to investigate how Microsoft processes Israeli military and government data and to stop these practices if they are found to be illegal.

The Council filed the complaint citing information obtained from whistleblowers within Microsoft, supported by the organization "Eco," a lobbying group working on holding major technology companies accountable on social issues.

The complaint stated that the data transfers weakened Ireland’s ability to monitor data classified as sensitive under the General Data Protection Regulation laws in Europe, one of the sternest privacy laws in the world.

The group filed the complaint in Ireland, where Microsoft's European headquarters are located, noting that the local regulatory authorities are responsible for enforcing the European Union's data protection law.
