Khaberni - The head of the Poultry Breeders Union, engineer Fares Hamouda, confirmed that poultry prices have been witnessing a significant decline since June, with a decrease of about 30-35% compared to last year.

Hamouda explained that the prices of live chicken dropped from ninety piastres in past periods to about 1.10 JD per kilogram currently, while the prices of fresh poultry meat ranged between 1.30 and 1.50 JD per kilogram, according to opinion.

He indicated that the increase in supply in the market is the main reason for the price decrease, resulting from several factors, most notably the rise in the production quantities of hatching eggs by 20-25% since 2024, which led to an increase in poultry breeding. Additionally, the efficiency of breeding operations and improved feed conversion efficiency since June have contributed to the rise in produced and available quantities.

Hamouda added that poultry meat prices are witnessing a noticeable decrease on both regional and global levels, which led to the import of new quantities in 2025 at a lower cost compared to 2024, putting pressure on local prices concurrently with a decline in demand and purchasing power. The increase in production in neighboring countries also contributed to reducing their demand for importing Jordanian poultry meats and hatching eggs.

He pointed out that the decrease in feed prices during the past two years has played a direct and significant role in increasing production.

Hamouda urged the government to monitor the chains and channels of importing poultry meats, especially those exempt from customs duties and designated for manufacturing to add value, warning of the possibility of their illicit leakage into the local market and competition with national products. He proposed linking the customs system to the billing system to ensure tracking of poultry meats designated for manufacturing and prevent their leakage into local markets.
