Khaberni - A parliamentary delegation led by the First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Khamis Atiyah met today, Wednesday, at the European Parliament headquarters in Brussels with the Vice-President of the European Parliament, Antolina Sierna.
Atiyah, in the presence of the Assistant Speaker of the House of Representatives Hala Al-Jarrah and Deputy Amal Al-Shaqran, affirmed the strength of the Jordanian-European relations and the partnership based on mutual respect and consideration of common interests, especially the values of humanitarian justice and promoting peace.
According to a press statement, Atiyah said that Jordan regards the role of the European Union in the Middle East as highly significant, in light of the regional challenges faced by the region, particularly the continued Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip, and the worsening humanitarian suffering. He also called for doubling international efforts to stop the repeated violations in Jerusalem, and to maintain the historical and legal status of Islamic and Christian holy sites in the holy city.
Atiyah mentioned that Jordan is progressing in a comprehensive modernization path, translating King Abdullah II's vision of building a modern Jordanian state, based on the rule of law, empowering youth and women, and increasing public participation in decision-making. He explained that this reform path includes enhancing the role of political parties, developing Jordanian legislation to ensure more justice and accountability, as well as supporting an environment of dialogue and political openness, and strengthening the practices of the rule of law and emphasizing the independence of the judiciary.
Atiyah added that the House of Representatives looks forward to building a deeper and more inclusive relationship with the European Parliament in various fields, as this partnership has a positive impact in enhancing stability in the region and represents a common international interest in facing regional challenges.
Atiyah also pointed out that enhancing the exchange of legislative expertise and supporting economic partnership between Jordan and the European Union are important pillars in this cooperation, especially through economic cooperation agreements that support the path of economic reforms in Jordan.
On her part, Al-Jarrah emphasized the importance of the meeting, considering it a milestone to enhance bilateral relations between Jordan and the European Union. She noted that the meeting represents an opportunity to expand economic cooperation, solidify political dialogue, enhance investment and capacity building, in addition to promoting knowledge and cultural exchange.
For her part, Al-Shaqran emphasized the importance of the role of parliamentarians in building bridges of partnership between Jordan and the European Union, which is a key partner in supporting programs for democratic transformation and sustainable development, especially projects aimed at meeting the needs of countries hosting refugees, which have posed significant challenges for Jordan on all fronts.
For her part, Sierna appreciated the efforts of Jordan under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II in supporting peace and humanitarian values. She confirmed that Jordan is an active partner of the European Union for its pivotal role in the region in all fields, especially parliamentary, and supporting Jordan's membership in the Mediterranean Bureau.
Sierna also referred to the continued support of the European Parliament and the European Union for Jordan in facing the burdens of regional crises. She explained that the European Union believes that a fair solution to the Palestinian conflict must be based on the two-state solution and the protection of the rights of the Palestinian people, affirming Jordan's historical role in protecting Islamic and Christian holy sites.
