Khaberni - Nurses Emad Al-Azamat and Mohammad Mahawish are resting on their recovery beds after being assaulted while working at the North Badia Hospital.
Al-Azamat told "Khaberni" that during his shift, an elderly patient who was suffering from vomiting came to the hospital, and while he was providing the necessary first aid, several of the patient's companions suddenly and without warning attacked him, beating him severely with blunt objects, sticks, and iron bars.
He noted that at roughly the same time, his colleague Mohammad Mahawish was attending to another patient and was also assaulted by the relatives of that other patient.
Al-Azamat explained that he and his colleague are undergoing treatment at the hospital, suffering from severe bruises and tearing in the fingers of one hand, while doctors fear he may have suffered a brain concussion, as he is under necessary medical supervision.
He mentioned that he and his colleague filed a complaint with the security services, but they were surprised by counter-complaints from the other parties accusing them of assault, noting that some of the assailants had obtained medical reports from another hospital.
Al-Azamat added that attacks on medical staff have become a phenomenon that needs serious treatment, pointing out that this is not the first time he has been assaulted, but it was the most severe, as the attack involved more than one person.
Al-Azamat also referred to the suffering of those working in government hospitals specifically from insults, verbal assaults, and poor treatment by some visitors and their companions, without effective penalties to prevent these incidents from recurring.
