Khaberni - The United Nations General Assembly early Wednesday adopted a resolution deeming Israel's continued occupation and its annexation of Syrian Golan illegal, and demands its withdrawal to the line of June 4, 1967.

123 countries voted in favor of the resolution proposed by Egypt, while Israel and 6 other countries opposed it, and 41 countries abstained from voting.

The resolution states that Israel's decision issued on December 14, 1981, to impose its laws, jurisdiction, and administration over the occupied Syrian Golan is null, void, and has no legitimacy whatsoever.

The resolution demands Israel withdraw from the occupied Syrian Golan to the line of June 4, 1967, in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

The permanent representative of Syria to the United Nations, Ibrahim Alabi, said in televised remarks reported by the Syrian News Agency (SANA): "The General Assembly witnessed an important event during the vote on the resolution concerning the occupied Syrian Golan, where it was supported for the first time by 123 countries."

He added, "This vote and the UN resolution demonstrate that Syria, despite all the challenges, does not relinquish its right to the Golan, and has proven this through its new diplomatic strength and active engagement with the international community, which led to changing the position of more than 26 countries compared to last year in favor of the resolution."

The permanent representative of Syria to the United Nations emphasized that the discussions with Israel do not address in any way the fate of the occupied Syrian Golan, stating that it is Syrian Arab land, and the Syrian position is firm on this issue.

He pointed out that the talks between Syria and Israel were conducted under the observation of US President Donald Trump, in the context of addressing the security concerns of both parties.

Syria expresses its gratitude to the countries that voted in favor of the resolution

Syria has expressed its gratitude to the countries that adopted and voted in favor of the "Syrian Golan" resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, especially those countries that changed their vote from previous years.

The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said in a statement:

"The increase in the number of countries that voted in favor of the resolution from 97 last year to 123 this year clearly demonstrates the significant support for the new Syria and its national and principled position holding on to the occupied Syrian Golan. It reflects the strenuous diplomatic efforts, as the resolution demands Israel withdraw from all the territories of the occupied Syrian Golan to the line of June 4, 1967, and reaffirms the principle that land cannot be acquired by force and the illegitimacy of Israeli settlements and other activities in the occupied Syrian Golan, and declares that Israel has not yet complied with UN Security Council Resolution 497, and that the continued occupation of the Golan and its de facto annexation pose a stumbling block to achieving just, comprehensive, and lasting peace in the region.

Syria in this context extends its utmost gratitude and appreciation to the Arab Republic of Egypt for presenting the resolution, and values the steadfast position of the countries that continued to vote in favor of the resolution as in previous years.

The engagement of the Syrian Arab Republic in serious discussions about technical matters that may affect its security and the security and stability of the region does not mean giving up on the Golan being Syrian land, a stance embodied through the successful international rallying for this resolution."
