Khaberni - In an exceptional incident, an Egyptian medical team succeeded in saving the life of a 55-year-old lady after she was bitten by a poisonous snake, leading to severe deterioration in her health condition. They noted that the prompt intervention and application of treatment protocols contributed to saving her from certain death.

Dr. Amro Doweidar, the Deputy Minister of Health in Sohag, stated that the patient, from Naj’ Hammadi village, arrived at the hospital in critical condition due to the venom's impact on her body functions. She was immediately admitted to the intensive care unit and received continuous medical care over several hours.

42 doses of antivenom
The deputy minister explained that the medical team conducted necessary examinations on the patient, including an echocardiogram and vascular tests, along with a Doppler ultrasound to ensure the circulation in the affected leg was intact.

The patient received a full 42 doses of anti-snake venom serum, which led to a noticeable improvement in her response to the treatment and her eventual stabilization.

Readiness and preparedness
Doweidar described the event as a "medical epic" that reflects the efficiency of the medical teams at the hospital and their ability to handle emergency and critical situations effectively, praising the significant effort exerted to save the patient.

He emphasized the availability of anti-snake and scorpion venom serum in all general and central hospitals in Sohag province, urging citizens not to take any snake bite lightly, no matter how trivial it may seem, and to head immediately to the nearest health facility to receive treatment according to the protocols of the Ministry of Health.
