Khaberni - Prince Hamzah Hospital witnessed a qualitative medical achievement represented in treating a severe and complex scoliosis case using the Halo Traction gradual pulling technique for six weeks, followed by a precise surgical procedure for spinal correction.
The surgery was successfully performed under the leadership of Dr. Ibrahim Al-Qasim, an orthopedic spine and deformities specialist, and Dr. Mohammad Al-Tarawneh, head of the neurosurgery department, with the participation of an anesthesiology team led by Dr. Rassam Al-Qasim and a complete and highly experienced nursing team in handling such complex cases.
This achievement belongs to a category of cases that are considered among the most complicated and risky in spine surgery, with the patient having a thoracic curvature of 110 degrees and a lumbar-thoracic curvature of 90 degrees, angles considered among the highest degrees of deformation that require multi-stage intervention due to the high risk to the spinal cord and vital organs.
The Halo Traction device was applied with the aim of gradually reducing the curvature and alleviating pressure on the spinal cord, thus preparing the spine for the final correctional surgery more safely. This phase lasted for six weeks, involving precise monitoring and intensive medical follow-up.
After the preparatory phase with traction, the surgical intervention to correct the spine took place, requiring high skill, precise planning, and complete cooperation among several specialties, given the dangers of the condition and the potential direct impact on the spinal cord functions.
The operation resulted in significant and safe correction of the spinal curvature, maintaining the integrity of the spinal cord and the stability of the patient's vital signs, reflecting the level of surgical sophistication and advanced equipment available at the hospital.
