Khaberni - The Turkish doctor Serdar Kyak, accused of killing his wife and child and disguising the crime as a car accident, ended his life inside a prison in Elazığ state last night.
According to media reports, Kyak used a garbage bag in his cell to tie himself to the bars of the ventilation window, before being found unconscious by the guards, and was transported to the prison's clinic by ambulance, however, he died despite medical intervention.
The accused had previously attempted suicide while being in Bafra prison, which prompted the authorities to later transfer him to a high-security facility.
The details of the case date back to September 12, 2025, when a car driven by Kyak fell about 30 meters into the Kızılırmak River in the Asarcık area of Samsun province.
The doctor survived with minor injuries after jumping from the vehicle, while the car sank with his wife and their 3-year-old child inside, before the bodies were recovered by diving teams.
The funeral witnessed poignant moments where the father was seen holding his child's blanket and crying, before subsequent investigations led to suspicions that the accident was deliberate.
The results of the criminal investigation showed contradictions that led to the arrest of the doctor and several charges against him, including premeditated murder of his wife, and intentional killing of a child unable to defend himself.
With his suicide in prison, the chapters of the case were closed without a judicial verdict against the accused, while procedures related to the circumstances of the accident and the suicide continue by the relevant authorities.
