Khaberni - The Israeli military has warned that it is facing a crisis due to a shortage of manpower, considering this undermines Israeli national security.
A report submitted by the military to the Chief of Staff and the political leadership in Israel, discussed in the context of a bill to exempt Haredi Jews from military service and revealed by Israel's Channel 12, indicates a shortage of about 1,300 officers across all combat units from lieutenant to major.
There is also a shortage estimated at 300 majors in various combat units.
The Israeli military stated that 30% of its senior military leaders would be leaving its ranks starting next year.
The military report also highlighted that only 37% of officers were willing to continue their military service this year, compared to 58% in 2018.
Only 63% of non-commissioned officers were willing to continue their military service this year compared to 83% in 2018.
The military estimates that 30% of its reservists and permanent service members will not join their units next year, while reservists will serve between 60 to 70 days next year.
Israeli reserve General Yitzhak Brick warned yesterday, Sunday, that the Israeli military is facing the most severe human crisis in its history due to the significant shortage of personnel.
Brick, who is also a military expert, in an article published by Maariv newspaper, pointed to thousands of officers and non-commissioned officers evading military service in recent months, with some dodging the call-up under various pretexts, and others refusing to renew their service in the military.
